Styling Transitional Pieces for Winter and Spring

This is such a tough time to dress for. One day last week was 60 degrees and another day was snowing. Today I'm styling 5 great transitional pieces for winter and spring.

Solid Maxi
A solid maxi is a great transitional piece because you can put legging or tights under it for extra warmth in the winter but it's still light for spring and summer. A solid color works for any season.
For winter, I paired it with a jewel toned sweater, a contrasting scarf (under $10) and ankle boots. For spring, you can go simple with a striped tee (under $10), jean jacket and sandals. I added this cool nautical statement necklace for a little bit of a pop.
Bright Pants
Bright pants can make your winter wardrobe a lot more fun and they look nice with light colored spring pieces. These outfits are good for work and play.
For winter, pair with a white button down, leather jacket, some ankle boots and a pair of fun gloves. In spring these look great with a light sweater, blouse and printed shoes.
Flats
To me flats are a year round thing but if it's very cold where you live, it's nice to get out of heavy boots. A good jewel tone is great year round.
For winter pair with a sweater dress (this one is under $25!) and light tights. A great spring wedding look is flats, a chambray dress and a statement bracelet.
Gingham Dress
This piece is a little more spring than a year round piece. But sometimes you just need to break out the fun spring clothes.
To make it work for the winter layer a turtleneck under and pair with black pumps. For spring add color with bright heels and add a fun pearl bracelet.
Striped Dress
Stripes are great anytime. I've put together two casual looks.
For winter play with print mixing! Add a buffalo plaid jacket and pair with over the knee boots. For a spring walk just add a colorful crossbody bag and white sneakers.

Leopard and Link Up

Today I'm hosting Fabulous Friday's with Jennie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots. I wore this to a women's networking event. I really like the women events because they are so positive. This jacket was a Christmas gift a few years ago and it's still one of my favorite pieces. It doesn't get a ton of wear but I do love it.

Meet your host for Fabulous Friday, Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots. ∼ Hey y'all, I'm Jennie and I am a 47 year old frugal fashionista! I am mom to two wonderful (and handsome!) sons and one very spoiled Pomeranian. After spending most of my life in black and boring clothes, I now enjoy trying new trends, am a confessed shoeaholic, believe life is too short for boring hair, and never met a polka dot I didn't like. I am also an avid photographer, reader of Jane Austen, Paleo/Primal enthusiast, and lover of DIY. You can follow me here ∼

My favorite look is from Hello Katie Girl. I love the stripes paired with the graphic tee. The mint heels look great too.

These shoes have great detail. This shade of pink is a great color  for year round. And I really like the criss cross details. $49.95
This is an awesome going out shoe. It's super sparkly which is always a plus and it is silver and gold so it'll go with any jewelry. $39.95
This multi-buckle style is so cute. The navy velvet looks great and it goes with so many colors. $49.95

Mixed Up

I wore this to a work event. I wore my new Cassie skirt. I like having a pencil skirt that doesn't draw attention to my stomach. I like to fold the waistband down. I mixed it with a fun cardigan. I've added a few printed cardigans below.

Swimsuits

It's time to start looking at swimsuits! I want to get one early this year. Last year I couldn't find one in that I liked and in my size because I waited too long.
I like the cutout on this one. The color is great too! $42.94  before sale. Old Navy is 30% off or 40% off if you pay with an Old Navy card.
I love how retro this swimsuit is and it's afforadable. $39.99
This is one of my favorites. I like the retro style of the bottoms and the little cutout on the top. You can also get black bottoms if you only like a little bit of print. Top $24.99  Bottoms $24.99
You guys know I love sparkles so I love this rhinestone cut out suit. The top would even be great paired with a solid color bottom for a less over the top look. Top $40  Bottoms $37

Soft and light

I saw Dita Von Teese last week. She's been on my list of shows to see for a while so when I saw that she was coming nearby I got tickets. I wanted to wear something girly and pretty a bow blouse and a tulle skirt fit the bill for me.It was a fantastic show. It was the best burlesque show I've seen. The group she assembled was awesome!

February Budget

I got a floral Cassie skirt for $35. I think it'll go with a lot of pieces in my closet. I like how it's a pencil skirt that doesn't draw attention to my stomach. I've linked some floral pencil skirts below.

I did get a few more pieces but I got them for a costume. Since I didn't count my Halloween costume last year, I'm not going to count this one.  I've had a few fun things to do last month and a few next month so I've been spending money on those and not clothes. I think I am going to look for a swimsuit in March. Last summer I waited too long into the season and nothing was available in my size and a style I liked.

Total $35

January Play by Sephora Review

January's box was not one of my favorites. One product didn't work for me at all.
Tarte Frxxxtion stick- This is a product that I hadn't heard of before I got it. I was impressed with it. I used it on days I didn't Clarisonic. It's a nice gentle exfoliation. I can see this product being really good for traveling and for putting in a workout bag. $22

Clinque Almost Lipstick in Black Honey- This is a very dark color in the tube but it goes on pretty and sheer. It's a really nice neutral color. I really like how moisturizing it is. $17

Oaui treatment masque- I wasn't wowed by this. It wasn't terrible but I feel like it didn't do anything to my hair. It didn't feel like a mask to me it was very thin so I had to use a lot of product. $32

AmorePacific CC Cushion- This product just didn't work for me. It wasn't near my skin tone. I tried using the darker color to contour but it didn't go either. It does have SPF 50, which is a real plus. $60

Youth to the People Kale + Spinach + Hyaluronic Acid Age Prevention Cream- This was alright for me. I like that it absorbed quickly. I'm not concerned about age prevention right now. It's a good moisturizer but it's not a wow for me.  $48

I wasn't crazy about this box but I do like the Frxxtion stick and the almost lipstick.

Leopard and Burgundy

It's been a super mild winter. So it's been nice not having to be bundled up all the time. I wore this look with tights and my work shoes to an event at work. I swapped out the tights and flats for over the knee boots for a date night. I'm really liking the combo of leopard and burgundy.

Pink Pieces under $50

Even though Valentine's is over I still love pink. I've found some great pink pieces and they are all under $50!
This is an interesting tee. I like how the ruffle carries over from the sleeves. $35
I love a bright pink bag. I use mine a ton. This one has a great color and it's a steal for $19.99.
Pink pants are a great way to add some fun into a business look. This would look great with a white or a bright colored blazer. $27.99
I like the little details in this jacket. It has little lazer cuts. I like that it's dainty but a little tough. $32.90
